The Arizona Chapter of the National Association of Environmental Professionals is a statewide organization that provides an opportunity for technical and regulatory information exchange, a forum for environmental speakers, and networking opportunities.

AZAEP is seeking candidates for the AZAEP Board.

The AZAEP Board of Directors consists of 7 members: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and 3 At-Large Directors. All the Board of Directors serve for two years and the election of the four officers and 3 at-large members is staggered. The four officer positions are up for election this year. The term for the four officer positions (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) will be from June 2012 through June 2014. The At-Large Directors serve until June 2013.

 

Generally, the monthly commitment for board members is 10-12 hours. There are two standard meetings: a monthly board meeting conducted via conference call, and the monthly membership meeting held in the evening at a Phoenix or Tucson area restaurant. See below for a description of each position's duties. We are also looking for members to serve on committees and ad-hoc projects. If you would like to assist but are short on time, we can tailor projects to your availability.

 

Nominations are due by May 11, 2012. Interested individuals may self-nominate by sending a short biography noting the position of interest and a description of qualifications. The election will be held on May 22, 2012 at the regular monthly meeting. Ballots will be also be emailed to members in good standing several days prior to May 22 so that members may vote by email. Officers must be a member in good standing of both AZAEP and NAEP before being sworn in (by June 26).

 

AZAEP PRESIDENT

The President of AZAEP shall have responsibility for the general supervision and operation of the Chapter.

Responsibilities:

- Provide leadership to Chapter and Board

- Chair Board Meetings

- Chair General Monthly Meetings of the Chapter

- Serve as local contact between Chapter and NAEP

- Serve as AZAEP Chapter Representative during NAEP Chapter Conference Calls (or designate a representative)

- Serve as a Chapter Representative during National Board meetings (or designate a representative)

- Respond to information requests from members and interested parties - Assist in preparation of announcements for listserve

- Must be a member of both AZAEP and NAEP

Time Commitment: Roughly 12-15 hours/month.

Term: 2 years, June 2012 - June 2014.

 

AZAEP VICE-PRESIDENT

The Vice-President of AZAEP shall assist with the operation of the Chapter.

Responsibilities:

- Attend Board Meetings (and facilitate in the absence of the President)

- Attend General Monthly Meetings (and facilitate in the absence of the President)

- Coordinate meeting location and menu

- Set up for meetings

- Oversee committees

- Coordinate fundraising activities

- Must be a member of both AZAEP and NAEP

Time Commitment: Roughly 10-12 hours/month

Term: 2 years, June 2012 - June 2014.

 

AZAEP TREASURER

The Treasurer shall be responsible for the financial operations of the Chapter. Responsibilities:

- Attend and participate in both Monthly Meetings and Board Meetings

- Collect all funds and provide receipts at meetings

- Deposit funds and dues payments into AZAEP account

- General bookkeeping

- Pick up mail at PO Box

- Maintain and update member database, with assistance from staff

- Close books and generate year-end report (3 hours per year)

- Must be a member of both AZAEP and NAEP

Time Commitment: Roughly 10-12 hours/month

Term: 2 years, June 2012 - June 2014.

 

AZAEP SECRETARY

The Secretary shall be responsible for keeping the official records of the Chapter.

Responsibilities:

Prepare agendas for the Monthly Meeting and monthly Board meeting.

- Email agenda to the President for review, comment or revision.

- Participate and record meeting minutes for both monthly and Board meetings.

- Prepare meeting minutes for both monthly and Board meetings; distribute; revise as needed

- Maintain the official records of the Organization (minutes, agendas, applications, etc.)

- Prepare/direct development of website content, with assistance from staff

- Must be a member of both AZAEP and NAEP

Time Commitment: Roughly 10-12 hours/month

Term: 2 years, June 2012 - June 2014.

 

COMMITTEE MEMBERS & VOLUNTEERS ALSO NEEDED

We are also looking for committee members to assist with intermittent activities (contacting speakers, assisting with the annual golf tournament, reviewing scholarship applications, contacting potential applicants, contacting potential new members, organizing data, etc.). Just let us know what you're interested in and we can match you with a task. Time commitment is up to your availability.

AZAEP FUTURE ENVIRONMENTAL PROFESSIONAL

2012 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION - Deadline Extended to May 15th!

 

The Arizona Association of Environmental Professionals (AZAEP) seeks outstanding students for the Future Environmental Professionals Scholarship. Each scholarship will carry an award of $1,000.00, plus a one year student membership in AZAEP and NAEP. The objective of the scholarship is to assist undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full-time in a degree program at an accredited Arizona college or university in preparation for a career as an environmental professional. Students must be enrolled full-time as stipulated by their program requirements. Students graduating in Spring or Summer 2012 are not eligible.

 

Scholarship recipients will be expected to make a short presentation at an AZAEP monthly meeting during the 2012-2013 school year. The scholarship funds will be distributed to the selected students after the first week of the fall semester.

 

Evaluation of the application will be based on the following application materials:

(1) Personal statement addressing educational and career goals, and how the scholarship will be used;

(2) Achievements, including clubs, organizations, and community service activities;

(3) Coursework and official transcripts; and

(4) Two letters of recommendation.

Four university students were selected out of 34 applicants this year to receive a $1,000 scholarship from AZAEP.

This brings our total scholarship awards to over $18,000 since the program began in 2007. The winners include Aletris Neils, Aimee Kessler, Katherine Weingartner, and Skyler Jackson. Each recipient will also speak at an upcoming meeting.
